For decades, Neal Boortz operated as Atlanta’s buttress to the right-wing radio talk show ecosystem headed nationally by Rush Limbaugh. His regular show on WSB in Atlanta ended in 2013 but he supplied daily commentaries on the station and ran a podcast up to 2019 when he supposedly retired.
Apparently finding the world safe for authoritarians again, Boortz has found a new home for himself on WFOM in Atlanta, which is owned by Dickey Broadcasting.
Boortz had the same polluting effect on listeners as Limbaugh and ran the much of the same playbook, interleaving his right-wing invective (with of course no correcting of mis/disinformation) with stories of his personal wealth and connections. The effect on his listeners — especially middle-aged white men — was one of “hold the same views as I do and you too can fly your own plane to Naples whenever you want.” Granted, 1000-watt WFOM is a big come-down from WSB but that he’s back on at all is not good.
